WORD Bookstores is happy to join the American Booksellers Association and Well-Read Black Girl to have our own WRBG Book Club Meet-ups! This group will be curated and facilitated by our very own WORDie Member, Nnennaya. Read on to discover why Glory started the WRBG Book Club and why we love them and her so much. Here's to reading women of color, may we forever discover ourselves within their stories.
"I often get asked why I started Well-Read Black Girl? The answer is simple: I LOVE TO READ. Does anyone remember ‘Honey, I Love’ by Eloise Greenfield? My 7-year-old self didn’t have the words for life-changing. My enchantment with storytelling has simply followed me into adulthood. Authors like, Toni Morrison, Zora Neale Hurston, Octavia Butler, Alice Walker, Maya Angelou and countless others always seem to have the answers in to all my questions. My quarter-life crisis ended swiftly after reading ‘Their Eyes Were Watching God’. With every heartbreak, I revisit June Jordan’s ‘Directed by Desire’. When I feel sassy, I often quote Maya Angelou. “Nothing will work unless you do.” Whatever the situation, I have the words and ultimately, the wisdom, sitting on my bookshelf. I will always love reading the stories of women who look, sound and feel just like me." - Glory Edim, Well-Read Black Girl Founder
Book group selections are 10% off when purchased at WORD.
