Join film maker Mason Engel and the booksellers of WORD for a special screening of The Bookstour: A Documentary at WORD Brooklyn!
The Story
When a self-published author started visiting the most unique indie bookstores around the country, he intended to promote his novel on Amazon. But that didn't last long. He realized there was a priceless something the “everything store” couldn’t sell. On a new cross-country road trip, dozens of bookseller interviews reveal what that something is: the #1 reason we should all shop indie.
The Director
In 2019, Mason Engel took a road trip around the country to 50 independent bookstores in 50 days. His goal was to promote his self-published novel, 2084, but his conversations with booksellers shifted his focus. On a second trip, he brought a cameraman along and asked booksellers a simple question: why should we shop indie? The resultant documentary, “The Bookstour”, premiered on public television this spring. Mason works on his books--and bookish films--in Los Angeles.
